The fundamentals of risk management will be addressed, establishing a common framework to understand its importance and application. Then, cases and particular aspects of risk management in satellite missions will be presented, an environment where complexity and the consequences of decisions make this process critical. Subsequently, different approaches and reference frameworks will be reviewed, including standards and guidelines such as ISO, NASA, ESA ECSS, PMBOK, and INCOSE, to show how each of them structures and guides the work. From there, the risk management process will be described step by step, from identification through monitoring.

Speaker: Hugo Nahuys is an Electronic Engineer and MBA, currently serving as Space Services Manager at ARSAT, the state-owned company responsible for the design, development, and operation of Argentina’s geostationary telecommunications satellites. Previously, he held roles as Chief Satellite Systems Engineer, Head of Quality and Risk, and Chief Satellite Operations Engineer. In the area of Quality and Risk, he led the placement of insurance for the ARSAT-1 and ARSAT-2 satellites, securing 20% of the risk coverage for their entire useful life in a historic milestone: the first 15-year coverage for a platform with no flight heritage. At Cape Canaveral, he was a speaker at the NASA Quality Leadership Forum (2017 and 2019) and participated in the ASQ CQSDI between 2017 and 2019. With 30 years of experience, he brings together expertise in project management, operations, systems engineering, business analysis, contract negotiations, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
